Eielson Air Force Base is located near Fairbanks, Alaska and is instrumental in deploying fighter and bomber units for defending Alaskan airspace. The base is home to the 354th Fighter Wing which provides close air support and training for combat in a simulated environment. Eielson is also the home of the Alaska Air National Guard's 168th Air Refueling Wing and its KC-135 Stratotanker.
Housing near Eielson is somewhat expensive. The average price for a home in the Fairbanks area is around $210,000. Local rents are not highly expensive, considering it's Alaska; about $900 for a one-bedroom and about $2000 for a four-bedroom.
Eielson AFB is about half an hour from Fairbanks in good weather - which is not present much of the year. Fairbanks is in central Alaska, with cold, dark winters and mild but very sunny summers, good hunting and fishing, and a lot of indoor activities.

Eielson AFB on post housing is managed privately by Corvias Military Living. Homes here are mostly multiplex and some duplex buildings and are assigned based on rank. Amenities include heated, attached garages, lawn care, ice removal, and walking/biking paths. Waitlists may apply depending on family size and specific requests.
